TRWEA TO HOST EDUCATIONAL EVENT
An educational event has been planned for Sunday, October 12. Directors and their staffs are asked to save this date and plan on attending.

Topics to be covered will include:

  • A Basic Design Clinic (lays out the basic tools and thought process for young designers, perfect for Middle School and SRA guards)
  • An Overview of the Judging System (What you always wanted to know but were afraid to ask)
  • A One-on-One session and discussion of director's 2009 Soundtrack or Ideas.

This event is open not only to guards, but to drum lines, dance teams, baton, and mixed units as well. Clinicians will include Michael Yoho, Tommy Allen, and Bruno Zuccala. For more information, click here or contact Michael Yoho.

TRWEA WELCOMES PERCUSSION COORDINATOR
TRWEA would like to welcome Dave Campbell as it's Percussion Coordinator. Dave will be facilitating the needs of the TRWEA Percussion membership over the course of the season and will oversee a Percussion Clinic slated for November 8th. (more details to follow) Dave will have an immediate impact on the course of Indoor Percussion in the region and TRWEA welcomes him to the team. More about Dave:

Dave has worked with several local area marching bands, stick teams and drum and bugle corps for as a designer, teacher and adjudicator. He was the director of the General Butler Vagabonds during their rise within the ranks of Drum Corps International Division III competition. He also served as the program coordinator for the Division I corps Pioneer out of Milwaukee as well as an executive board member for Drum Corps Midwest.

Dave was a Visual Ensemble and General Effect judge for Winter Guard International Percussion from 1996 until 2002 and adjudicated several local and national championships during that time. In addition to WG I., he has also adjudicated for DCI, ISSMA, MEPA, T.S.C, USSBA and the PFCJ as well.

He holds a B.S. in Music Education from Duquesne University where he studied percussion under Mr. Gerald Unger and timpani legend Stanley Leonard. After teaching in the Catholic Diocese and the Cornell School District, Dave started his own business as a computer consultant and currently lives in Robinson Township with his with wife Janice and their son Alex.

TRWEA HOLDS ANNUAL MEETING
TRWEA's directors met on August 17 to set the course for the upcoming season. Among the developments from the meeting:

  • The 2009 competition schedule has been set. The Association will take a break on Feb. 21 for WGI's Pittsburgh Regional.
  • Four new proposals were adopted.
  • New policies were announced by the Management Committee and discussed by the membership.
  • Management Committee members Michael Yoho and Heather Shrump were reelected.

WGITOP HATS EXCEL IN DAYTON
Congratulations to the Top Hats, 2008 WGI World Finalists in Independent Open Class. Top Hats finished 6th in finals, scoring an impressive 90.4. Earlier in the weekend, Top Hats finished 3rd in Round 1 during prelims (88.3), and 3rd in Round 2 in semifinals (89.8). Gateway advanced into Scholastic A semifinals after finshing 5th in Round 3 in prelims (85.8). Excel made the semifinals cut with an 82.9 in IA prelims (3rd place in round 2; Excel finished fifth in the Brazale Division with an 85.2). Norwin finished their season with an eighth place finish in the Scholastic Open prelims Round 4 (80.1). Lake Erie Regiment rounded out the TRWEA contingent with a 21st place finish in IW prelims (73.0).
